If your tile has mildew, mold, or stains. Or if it's dirty, cracked, broken, or there is missing grout.
*Hint: After removing the grout, use 1/3 hydrogen peroxide and 2/3 water in a spray bottle to help kill mold and mildew
The answer is simple. Many harsh cleaning products dry out the grout causing microscopic pores that inhibit mold growth and shrinkage of the grout causing the grout to crack and eventually falling out of the joint. Grout does not last forever! It needs to be regrouted.
The tool is designed to remove sanded and non-sanded grout from narrow grout joints 1/8 of an inch or less. For grout joint wider than 1/8 of an inch, try using tools such as the Fein Tool or The Grout Grabber. These tools can be searched via the internet using the names Fein or Grout Grabber.
Non-Sanded grout used mostly in water area’s such as tubs, showers, pools, etc. and also in marble, granite and other natural stone with grout joints 1/8 of an inch or smaller will last about 15 to 20 years before needing regrouted.
*Hint: Use a towel to dry the area after each use of the tub or shower and extend the life of the grout to 30 to 40 years.
